Tom Giannini – ASRS PR
(CLERMONT, IN) A day after the drivers of the American Sim Racing Series tackled the steep concrete oval of the Dover International Speedway, they found themselves racing in the tight quarters of the much flatter Lucas Oil Raceway. The track offers multiple racing lines and when drivers are in a groove, it can produce some excellent racing. The drivers were in a groove Wednesday night and the racing was some of the best we have seen all season.
The night started out with Jared Mogard wheeling his #00 car to the pole position with a time of 21.800. Travis Wright (21.851) started in second place followed by Jim Foose, Jason Stewart and Evan Osbourne. The racers would get to racing right away as the new restart rules offered some even tighter racing on the initial start. Drivers would settle into a groove as the race would go green until just past the halfway point.
Under caution all of the leaders would pit for tires except for 5th place Tom Giannini. Jason Stewart would restart second with a two tire pitstop. Giannini stayed out but would fail to lead a green flag lap as Jared Mogard would take his 3rd place restart position and make a thrilling three-wide pass around Giannini and Jason Stewart for the lead. The race would not fall under another caution and Mogard would not look back.
Jared Mogard finished first followed by Travis Wright, Jason Stewart, Jim Foose and Allan Young. The series has four races left on the schedule with Five Flags Speedway on tap for next week!
