(BRISTOL, TN) The Bristol Motor Speedway is known as “The Last Great Colosseum” and the .533 mile concrete oval lived up to that reputation as the ASRS Camping World Truck Series hit the high banks.
Michael Atkins, Jr led the field to the green flag in the #01 Chevrolet and was joined by Jamie Vaughn on the front row. Vaughn would grab the lead for one lap, but Atkins fought back to lead four laps. Sam Maxwell, driving the #68 would then take the lead from Atkins on lap five.
Robby Baskins took the lead when Maxwell’s #68 team pitted under the race’s second caution flag, Baskins would lead two laps before Maxwell took over at the front once again. The early cautions damaged several trucks and led to a bit of hot tempers as the race hit the mid point. Baskins would once again take the lead on lap 27.
Jared Mogard started at the rear of the field and fought his way into the lead battle and on lap 46 took the lead and never looked back. A couple late race cautioned mixed up the running order. Mogard was able to hang on to the lead after the final restart with 18 laps to go and held off strong challenges from Maxwell and Atkins, Jr. in the the closing laps. Sam Maxwell was second, Michael Atkins, Jr. was third followed by Jim Foose and Robby Baskins who rounded out the top five.
Robby Baskins holds a 47 point lead over Jim Foose in the championship standings as the Camping World Truck Series has two races to go until the Chase for the Championship kicks off at Chicagoland Speedway.
