CLEVELAND, OH When September 15th arrives the American Sim Racing Series will officially shift gears and hit the track without the fenders. The all-new Open Wheel Series opens at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a track with a storied history for ASRS among the stock car ranks and a long history of real world open wheel racing.
ASRS is looking for passionate drivers who want to build something from the ground up, the first season won’t be fully broadcasted and won’t have a season ending prize. Instead the focus will be strictly on the racing and learning the Dallara IR-18 as a group while growing the league.
The schedule which runs through early December will see the Open Wheel Series race eleven times with nine ovals and two road courses making up the championship. Additionally, a street course exhibition event will be held on the Streets of Chicago in mid-December.
iRacing.com recently announced updates to the Dallara IR-18 including an updated road course tire model and updated competitive setups for the car. While the majority of the 2021 schedule focuses on oval tracks the plan is to integrate more road courses into the schedule in what ASRS President Jim Foose calls “Phase 2”.
Drivers have recently completed a five week training program that featured exhibition races at Homestead-Miami, Chicagoland, Iowa and Kentucky Speedway ovals and the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course road course.
