(CLEVELAND, OH) The battle to be assured a starting position in the sixth race of the 2021 ASRS Hacksaw PC’s Premier Cup Series is heating up. Heading to Phoenix Raceway, Jordan Harnish, Scott Eckrich and Corey Silva occupy the top three positions in the current standings, which assures them a starting position in the GunSkins.com Phoenix 150.
The focus is on four drivers who earned guaranteed starting positions in the first five races, which includes this week’s Gunskins.com Phoenix 150 as the final event to utilize 2020 standings to set the field:
Pete Baskins, driver of the #39 Loud Pedal Motorsports Ford sits 23rd in the standings just six points behind 20th place Cody Speicher. Just behind is Tim Knott, driver of the #41 Dirty Bird Sim Racing Toyota, who sits 26th, 11 points removed from the top 20. Michael Whiting, driver of the #44 Ford is 29th, 17 points outside of the top 20. Then there’s Woody Mahan, driver of the #84 Loud Pedal Motorsports Ford who currently sits 33rd in points 32 points out of the top 20.
For the four drivers who have struggled to start 2021 off on the right note, there’s an equal amount of drivers who have worked their way inside the top 20 heading to Phoenix on Wednesday evening. Steve Yenisch finds himself 11th in the standings, 32 points ahead of 21st. Jackson VanVolkinburg was inside the top three non-locked in drivers once this season but has dropped to 15th, 26 points head of 21st. Grant Brown and Danny Gutierrez have also worked their way into the top 20 heading to Phoenix.
With Phoenix as the fifth race of the season, those four drivers who were inside the top 20 in 2020 have one more chance to race their way into a locked in position before next week’s race at Atlanta.
Included in the battle for the top 20 are some new faces on the outside looking in: #89 Jeff Yenisch, #45 John Eckhart, #31 Larry Ohrn and #88 Thomas George all within 10 points of the 20th position.
Each race week the top 20 drivers in the championship standings will be guaranteed starting positions in the following race. The locked in drivers can change each week.
