(CLEVELAND, OH) Drivers of the American Sim Racing Series are going to take a drive down Glory Road this summer as the series “throwsback” to the eighties, the period of hair bands, neon colors and enough hairspray to put a hole in the ozone layer.

iRacing will release the 1987 Ford Thunderbird and Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the June build and the cars will immediately take to the track as part of the “Thursday Night Throwback Series”.  ASRS will kick off the “Thursday Night Throwback Series” at North Wilkesboro Speedway, which will be brand new to the iRacing service as well in June.  The series will stop at historic NASCAR venues as part of the 10-race 2020 schedule including several “legacy” tracks available on the iRacing service.

“The cars of the late 80’s are some of the first cars I remember seeing on track in NASCAR, including that Bill Elliott Thunderbird, which was winning races and setting speed records when I was a toddler, it’s exciting to see them coming to the iRacing service and even more exciting that we will be racing them” stated ASRS Promoter Jim Foose.  “We are looking at many historic tracks for our schedule, since we will only have 10 races this year we feel we can best honor the traditional NASCAR race tracks and put on a great series”.

Tracks being discussed for the 10-race schedule include North Wilkesboro Speedway, Rockingham Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Richmond Raceway, Phoenix International Raceway (Legacy), Michigan International Speedway (Legacy), Pocono Raceway (Legacy), Daytona International Speedway (Legacy), Bristol Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Other options such as Atlanta Motor Speedway, which was reconfigured in the late 90’s are also on the table for the series along with the potential for a road course race.
