(CLEVELAND, OH) Officials with the American Sim Racing Series introduced the “Wheelman Showdown” a 10 race championship series within the 2020 Premier Cup Series schedule. The ten tracks were chosen by ASRS Officials as the most challenging and unique tracks within the tracks on the 2020 schedule.
2020 Wheelman Showdown Races:
March 17 Atlanta Motor Speedway
April 7 Bristol Motor Speedway
April 21 Richmond Raceway
April 28 Talladega SuperSpeedway
June 9 Michigan International Speedway
Jun 30 Indianapolis Motor Speedway
August 18 Daytona International Speedway
August 25 Darlington Raceway
September 25 The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway
October 27 Martinsville Speedway
The Wheelman Showdown will accumulate championship points in the ten races with a champion earning a custom built Steering Wheel ($750 value). The races are spread throughout the 2020 calendar with the Showdown races ranging from mid-March to late October.
Points will be kept separately for the 10 Wheelman Showdown events, which will be featured on the American ESports Association Special Events schedule. There will be no attendance requirement to win the Wheelman Showdown championship, the Showdown will be open to all drivers competing in the 10 races.
“I love the idea of focusing on the more difficult tracks. NASCAR & iRacing have taken so much out of the drivers hands with this low horsepower/high down force package on the cup cars, that most races, especially the mile and a half tracks, are dictated by the draft. In the Wheelman Showdown schedule, half of the tracks are drivers tracks. I’ll take that all day.” Multiple race winner Will Warstler said.
“I think adding the Wheelman Showdown will be a great way to bring more attention and good drivers through ASRS. A championship within a championship will heighten drama throughout the season as well as attract new drivers to the league. I’m looking forward to next year” said driver Kelsy Rogers.
