(NEWTON, IA) The Camping World Truck Series was founded on short tracks and the newest short track on the schedule, Iowa Speedway, which joined the series in 2009, ranks high on the list of best short tracks in the series.
Robby Baskins ran the fastest lap in qualifying and was joined by Michael Atkins, Jr. on the front row for the green flag. The green didn’t last long as entering turn 1 on lap 2 a pile up collected several drivers, including championship hopefuls Jim Foose and Gene Collum.
The green flag was a common sight as several early cautions damaged many driver’s hopes before longer green flag runs came into play in the race’s second half. Robby Baskins established himself as a favorite for the win, but he had competition from Zac Bozanich and Jared Mogard.
Mogard led the most laps, 60, before slipping back to second in the late going as Bozanich made his way to the lead. A late race restart with five laps to go set Bozanich on his way to victory, as the 7/8 mile track was hard to pass, making track position key at the end.
Bozanich won his second Camping World Truck Series race in a row, Mogard was second followed by Robby Baskins, Atkins, Jr. and Eric Barile rounded out the top five.
With a third place finish, combined with Foose’s 23rd place showing, Robby Baskins extended his points lead to 27 points as the Camping World Truck Series heads to Gateway Motorsports Park next week.
