Chapman Survives Charlotte Carnage for First ASRS Win

13240149_10154904099454778_7150279261246775856_n(CONCORD, NC) The TM Digital Concepts Tribute to our Heroes 100 saw 43 drivers attempt to qualify for the 32 truck field and with the difference between the pole and missing the race just .134 seconds.

Missing the race were  Alex Bates, Steve Buhala, Bradley Cross, Jonathan Hambrick, Jonathan Phelps, Jaden Rosard, Steven Thomas, Kris Titus, Steven Trombly, Robert Vormwald, and Barry Zellmer.

Justin Vaughn’s #7 led the field to the green flag, but would only lead two of the 67 laps.  Caution flew early on lap 3 just as Michael Atkins, Jr. took the lead from Justin Vaughn.  The #44 of Eric Bannenberg spun collecting Joe Johnson’s #28 and Jason Lindner’s #13 .

The race took a green feel to it after the restart before once again being slowed on lap 22.  From there the cautions came often, with five more cautions flying in the final 40 laps, bringing the total to 7.

Jared Mogard was cruising to victory in the closing laps before making contact with the frontstretch wall and collecting second place Ty Hester’s #36 Tundra.  That would hand the lead to Adam Chapman in the #24 Folds of Honor Chevrolet.  Chapman led a total of three laps to score the win, his first ASRS victory.  Jason Stewart was second followed by Travis McQuistion third, Hester fourth and Nick Coffman’s #55 fifth.

A total of seven drivers led the race with the lead changing hands eight times.  In addition to Chapman, Justin Vaughn, Atkins and Mogard leading, David Nannen and Hester each took turns leading the way.

Championship leader Robby Baskins had a rough race but remains the leader by five points over Jim Foose as the Camping World Truck Series takes a week off before heading to Rockingham Speedway May 31st.
