(LAKELAND, FL) It’s been several months since the drivers of the American Sim Racing Series have fired up their Super Late Models, but that would change on Wednesday night when it was time to kick off the first of two races that comprise the All American 400. The All American 400, in its 20th season, attracted all of the best drivers of the series. Even SLM champ Justin Blackdeer dusted off his #51 to make a run at the trophy.

Wednesday night started off with uncertainty when iRacing issues put the race into doubt. The issues would be resolved and qualifying for the event began on time. Rookie Joe Burchett won the pole for the race followed by Zac Coyer, Jonathan Holstein, Jordan Harnish and Justin Blackdeer rounding out the top 5. The race would be marred by wrecks, some wrecks being huge pileups.

One of the major wrecks happened when Jamie Moore made an outside pass on Matt Vaade on a restart. Vaade would move to block the run but would make contact with the left front of Moore. Vaade would go careening into the outside wall and then back down to the inside wall. Contact with other cars along the way would turn the racing surface into a junkyard. The wreck would take out race contenders, one of which was early race leader Allan Young.

From there the race would belong to Justin Blackdeer. He would lead a majority of the second half until a late race surge from Joe Burchett put an end to Justin Blackdeer’s lead. Burchett would walk away from the field and claim the win in his first ever American Sim Racing Series start. Justin Blackdeer finished 2nd followed by Brad Cross, Jordan Harnish and Tim Knott.

Thursday night played host to the Pro Late Model portion of the All American 400. The cars are drastically different from their SLM cousins so naturally they produced a different crop of front runners and contenders. Carson Hocevar won the pole for the event but would then shock the field by packing up the race hauler and driving away. That would then give the pole to 3rd place qualifier Allan Young. Zac Coyer started 2nd, Jared Mogard 4th and Jim Foose rounded out the top 5. T

he night would belong to several different drivers. Allan Young, Jared Mogard, Tim Knott and Jim Foose found themselves in the top 5 for most of the night. Thursday night’s race would be run under green far more than Wednesday’s race.

Jared Mogard was the class of the field, coming back from an early technical issue to claim the lead for a second time late in the race. He would go on to storm away from the field and claim the second leg of the 20th Annual All American 400. John Kennedy finished 2nd followed by Tim Knott, Jim Foose and Matt Handley rounded out the top 5.

With that, the 20th version of this prestigious ASRS race is now in the books. The Turkey Bowl is next week, stay tuned to ASRS to see how it goes!
