(ROCKINGHAM, NC) Mogard Wins Again, Dominates Rockingham For the duration of the ASRS Short Track Series season, the drivers have tackled tracks that were a mile in length or shorter. Most tracks on the circuit are composed of tight spaces and bullring like atmospheres.

Wednesday’s race at Rockingham would offer a change of pace for the competitors. Although the track is a mile long, it offered some extra room for drivers to maneuver around in. That difference would not matter to the series’ front runners as fans in attendance would find out. Coming into the race, the season has been a dogfight between Ty Hester, Jason Stewart and Jared Mogard. The three drivers were separated by a mere 10 points atop the standings.

There would be a shakeup in the points standings before the race was over. An open qualifying format was instituted for the first time this season and Dominic Lee took advantage of the extra qualifying laps. He put his #18 NOS Chevy on the pole. Qualifying second was Lee’s team mate and points leader, Ty Hester. Jared Mogard, Allan Young and Travis Wright all rounded out the top 5.

The biggest story on the day was Ty Hester finding trouble early on in the event when his #36 Chevy was heavily damaged in an accident. He would not be able to continue in the event and was relegated to an 18th place finish. From there on the race was on for the points lead. Jared Mogard dominated the event but Jason Stewart was not going down without a fight. Stewart led laps late in the race and had a chance to win but the hard charging and dominant Mogard would not allow Stewart the victory.

Mogard passed Stewart late in the race and went on to win the event. Allan Young followed Mogard around Stewart for a second place finish. Stewart went on to finish 3rd, well enough to claim him the points lead. Alex Geise finished 4th and pole sitter Dominic Lee went on to finish with a top 5 result. Jared Mogard, although dominant, would not beat Jason Stewart by enough positions to claim the points lead.

Stewart now sits atop the series. The model of consistency is quickly becoming a championship favorite. Ty Hester will try to rebound next week as the series rolls into Lucas Oil Raceway. Time is ticking as only four races remain on the schedule!
