(HOMESTEAD, FL) While the spotlight was shining on Robby Baskins and Jim Foose as they raced for the championship in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Ty Hester snuck in and stole the show.  Six points separated the championship leader Baskins from Foose in second.

Justin Vaughn and Michael Atkins, Jr. led the field of 32 to the green flag, Vaughn jumped to an early lead in the #7 and led three laps.  Atkins took over the lead just before the race’s first caution flew for a crash that sent the #29 of Lee Staples flipping wildly.

Early on it looked as if Robby Baskins would cruise to the championship as his #46 was running inside the top 10 while Jim Foose’s #42 was outside the top 20.  But as the race went green, Foose advanced his position and Baskins fell back.

Late in the going, things changed when Danny Rodgers, John Kennedy and Zack Calloway crashed coming out of turn 4, as the trucks spun both Jim Foose and Robby Baskins were collected in the carnage.  Baskins would lose a lap in the pits, but Foose remained on the lead lap and that’s where the championship battle swung a different way.

On an ensuing restart, Baskins was collected in another incident, one that Foose narrowly avoided.  With a handful of laps left, Foose had to hold six drivers between himself and Baskins, however it wasn’t easy as the #42 had suffered heavy damage in the earlier incident.

Meanwhile at the front, Ty Hester led the field in the closing laps after a three wide battle for the lead ended in Sam Maxwell’s #68 getting destroyed.  That set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish with Hester pulling away from Zac Bozanich and taking his first victory of 2016.

With Hester taking the checkered flag, Bozanich was second, followed by Tom Giannini third, Justin Vaughn fourth and Allen McEwen rounded out the top five.

Jim Foose was able to take the 2016 ASRS Camping World Truck Series Championship by four points over Robby Baskins.  It was Foose’s seventh Truck Series Championship.
