(CLEVELAND, OH) The dust has barely settled on the 2017 season, with the Inaugural December Dirt Week Presented by Ares Sportswear wrapping up the most competitive season to date of American Sim Racing Series action.
Over 40 drivers visited victory lane during the 2017 campaign that saw the birth of the Dirt Racing Series, the continued growth of the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series, and much more action in the Short Track Pro Series, Super Late Model Tour, Sportsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series.
The growth of the Truck Series, highlighted by longer races in 2018 will expand the Playoffs to include 12 drivers in 2018. The growth of the Truck Series also brought about the addition of the Twitchy Race Reports Premier Cup Series to the 2018 slate which replaces the Xfinity Series with a 16 race schedule on Tuesdays when the Truck Series is off. The Cup Series will feature longer races with full fuel loads in an effort to add more strategy, reward drivers who race hard but also race with the “big picture” in mind. A bonus point will be awarded at the half-way point to the race leader. All Tuesday night events will be broadcasted on PrimeTime Racing TV, which got a head start on broadcasting with the final two races of the ASRS Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series. Drivers will have to race a little more carefully as the incident limit will be dropped by 4 incident points to 13.
“We’re coming off what is perhaps our best season ever, we saw close competition in each series, great races and overall I feel everybody had fun in 2017” said ASRS President Jim Foose. “We made a few changes for 2018 including bringing in a new Competition Director to take some of the burden off of me allowing a bit of free time and less worry each week. I believe one of the biggest changes for the league is going to be the longer races and that’s something I am very interested in watching play out all year.”
Wednesday nights will continue to feature short tracks and dirt racing. The Dirt tracks will knock the dust off of the 2018 season as they will kick the Wednesday night series off January 10th.
