(LOUDON, NH) Coming into the 4th week of the ASRS Short Track Pro-Series schedule, it has been Ty Hester and Jason Stewart with a leg up on the competition. Other drivers have led many lap and won races, but it has been the steady resolve of Hester and Stewart that have them atop the points standings. Jim Foose, Dominic Lee and Rex Hoyle rounded out the top 5 entering the 60 lap race at the Magic Mile, New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
It would be Michael Atkins Jr. laying early claim to the race with a pole run. Points leader Ty Hester started second followed by Dominic Lee, Stephen Pearce and Scott Smith. Michael Atkins would not have smooth sailing, the driver of the #44 employed an off sequence pit strategy that landed him far back in the field on a restart. He would receive damage in a restart stack-up and would be forced to pit under the next caution to repair the damage. The damage was not severe enough to keep him out of contention.
Atkins made his way back up through the field, methodically passing cars on the inside and outside lines. He would not be denied in this one as he went on to win the race. Jason Stewart continued his strong season and finished in the runner-up position. Jared Mogard finished 3rd followed by Scott Smith and Ty Hester. Stewart’s runner-up finish was enough to take the points lead from Ty Hester.
However, that points lead is as slim as they come. One point is the differential after 4 races. Collin Penn, Dominic Lee and Jared Mogard all find themselves in contention resting comfortably in the top 5.
The season looks as if it is coming down to Ty Hester and Jason Stewart. Will their momentum continue? We will have to wait until the teams take to Myrtle Beach Speedway on October 11th!!
