(BROOKLYN, MI) Race 15 for the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series took them to the Michigan International Speedway. Tonight there were 42 drivers showing up trying for a spot in the 36 truck starting field. After qualifying was done it seen Michael Atkins Jr. on the pole with Lee Staples to his outside. 3rd was Tim Knott, Mitchell Brown 4th, and Jake Douglas 5th.
There were five yellows with four lead changes in tonight’s action. The race went green for the first five-teen laps before seeing the first yellow. The race would go green to lap thirty providing some great pit strategy to start to pay itself out. On the one to go lap roughly ten drivers would come down pit road to top off with fuel. The race went green to lap 41 as drivers who stayed out were starting to pit which was playing into the hands of the guys who pitted on one to go during the prior yellow. The race went back green with just 4 laps to go and off the final restart is when the big one happened which sent the race to a yellow finish.
When the checkers flew it was Kevin Mingus getting the Win, Michael Chrobok 2nd, Lee Staples 3rd, Pete Baskins 4th, and Sam Maxwell 5th. This would be Mingus’s FIRST Career ASRS Victory in his #94 Truck. The points and playoff picture with 3 races remaining are still under review.
The last restart which saw the big one happened is under review so points and official results are still pending. Be sure to check out the website in the next couple of days to see what the top 8 point guys are.
