(ROCKINGHAM, NC) The ASRS Xfinity Series turned back the dial a bit, heading to a track that has not been a part of NASCAR’s Xfinity Series since 2004. For years Rockingham Speedway hosted NASCAR events that many times were decided by last lap action. ASRS hit Rockingham for the first time in 2008 and has made regular stops at the high banked one mile ever since.
37 drivers were on hand to attempt to qualify for the 110 lap event. Five drivers failed to qualify for the 32 car starting field: Brandon Boyd, Edward Bray, Michael Cunic, Jared Morgan and Gary Nichols. Homestead winner Robert Padavich turned the fastest lap in qualifying and led the field to the green flag with Jared Mogard to his outside.
The race featured seven lead changes among five drivers and was slowed by 11 cautions, mostly in the mid-portion of the race.
Padavich showed that he was a contender in the #54, but he had company as well in the form of Zac Bozanich, Ty Hester and Brandon Smith.
Late in the going, Padavich suffered a setback and dropped to ninth at the finish. Hester and Bozanich battled up front and Justin Brown joined in the fun as well.
A late caution ended the race under the control of the pace car, Bozanich was able to pick up the victory, followed by Hester, Justin Brown was third, Smith fourth and Pete Baskins fifth.
Ty Hester jumped to the lead in the Xfinity Series Championship leading Sam Maxwell by three points heading into Charlotte Motor Speedway next week.
