(NEWTON, IA) It’s said that races are won and lost on the final lap and Iowa Speedway once again delivered a fantastic finish as Michael Atkins, Jr. made a last lap pass on Danny Rodgers to take the Iowa Corn E85 victory.
Twenty two drivers attempted to qualify for the 85 lap event, Skeeber Flob’s Kettle Corn sponsored driver Jonathan Holstein led the field to the green flag. With 10 lead changes among nine drivers, the action up front was hot and heavy.
Six cautions slowed the pace, but in the end Michael Atkins took the lead on lap 84 and took his first win of 2017. Danny Rodgers was second followed by Holstein in third, Gary Nichols fourth and Lee Staples fifth.
Atkins took the championship lead and leads Lee Staples by one point as the Skeeber Flob’s Kettle Corn Pro Series heads to a true bullring, the Southern National Motorsports Park next week.
