(AVONDALE, AZ) Jake Douglas is on a roll early on in the 2017 ASRS Xfinity Series. This week the #49 Ford led the way in qualifying, which saw 41 drivers attempt to qualify for the 32 car starting field. Failing to qualify was: Michael Cunic, Matt Doza, Austin Foutch, Jay Graves, Jr., Ernest Martinez, Jr., Allen McEwen, Kevin Mingus, Kris Titus and Barry Zellmer. Jared Mogard, Matt Mitchell and Zack Calloway took provisionals.
Jake Douglas led the field to the green flag in the #49 SKF Ford Mustang and was accompanied by Michael Atkins, Jr. on the front row. Several early cautions cleared the way for glimpses of green flag racing around lap 20, but even so the cautions kept coming as drivers battled a slick Phoenix International Raceway.
The track was extremely slick at the exits of turn two and turn four, sending several drivers spinning around like rush hour traffic on an icy morning.
The race, scheduled for 125 laps was cut short by 19 laps, as the time limit expired on lap 106, with Jake Douglas leading the way. Douglas was able to score his second victory in a row over second place Logan Runyon, Danny Rodgers was third followed by Tom Gianinni and Allan Young who rounded out the top five.
Jake Douglas leads the championship standings by 12 points over Danny Rodgers as the ASRS Xfnity Series heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway next Tuesday night for an tropical afternoon of racing.
