(AVONDALE, AZ) Jared Mogard picked up where he left off in the Skeeber Flob’s Kettle Corn Pro Series by visiting Victory Lane in the season opener.
Mogard led the field of 27 to the green flag for the 75 lap affair and was joined by Jake Douglas on the front row. Mogard looked unstoppable at Phoenix, taking his #01 to the lead, a position he resided in for 68 of the 75 laps. The race went green off the bat for 19 laps before the first caution flew.
Seven more cautions slowed the pace, but one thing remained consistent, Mogard established himself as the man to beat. A restart on lap 67 set up the race for an eight lap run to the finish, but a caution for the race’s biggest crash on lap 72 ended the race under caution.
Mogard cruised to victory over Bradley Cross, who brought the #30 home second, Jake Douglas was third followed by Danny Rodgers and Tom Giannini who rounded out the top five.
Following the race both Mogard and Rodgers were penalized 10 points for restart violations. Both drivers changed lanes prior to the start-finish line and were found to be in violation of a new rule that was added in the offseason to enable cleaner restarts.
Next week the ASRS Skeeber Flob’s Kettle Corn Pro Series heads to Iowa Speedway for the Iowa Corn 85.
