(SPARTA, KY) Kentucky is known for it’s bluegrass and another form of horsepower, but on Tuesday night the focus became on the loud form of horsepower as the ASRS Xfinity Series stormed into the 1.5 mile track.

Jared Mogard led the field to the green flag in his newly renumbered 10 car with Michael Atkins, Jr. along side, also in a renumbered ride as his #18 car became the #01 for the remainder of the season.

Early on, the race took a green look, going a full fuel run that forced the entire field to make a green flag pit stop, just as the final driver completed his pit stop, the caution flew for the first time on lap 35.

Three cautions slowed the pace as the 125 mile race saw six leaders swap the lead a total of 12 times in the 84 lap race.  One of those cautions flew when Steven Thomas and points leader Justin Vaughn made contact in turn 1, collecting others and effectively taking Vaughn out of contention for the win, which he was poised to race for a top five position.

As the checkered flag flew, it was Mogard picking up the win, his first Xfinity Series win with Atkins, Jr. second, Zac Bozanich was third in the #91, while Eric Barile and Ty Hester rounded out the top five.

Justin Vaughn continues to lead the championship standings by just one point over Jim Foose as the Xfinity Series heads to Pocono Raceway for the first time in series history on August 2nd.
