Late Model 100 Lap Main Event to be Featured in 2018

December Dirt Week (#DecemberDirtWeek) is back with a new format for the second edition.  This year’s event will feature the Dirt Late Models on track all three days culminating with a 100 lap main event.  The event will move from Lanier National Speedway to the 4/10 mile Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Late Models will be on track on Tuesday, December 11 for time trials to set the field for the twin qualifying races on Wednesday, December 12th.  At the conclusion of the qualifying races, eighteen drivers (eight from each qualifier plus the fastest two qualifiers not already in) will be locked into Thursday’s 100 lap event.  A Last Chance Qualifier will set the remaining positions with two promoter’s option provisionals available and the 26-28 car starting field will take the green flag.

Joining the Late Models will be two of the dirt track favorites.  Tuesday will see the UMP Modifieds run a 50 lap feature event and on Wednesday the Winged Sprints will be race 30 laps.  

Thursday’s 100 lap main event will feature a crowdfunding effort in addition to race title sponsors, presenting sponsors and broadcast sponsors.  Laps in the race will be sold and placed on a “scoreboard page” on the ASRS website as well as listed on ASRS and December Dirt Week social media pages.  Laps will sell for $1.50 each ($1 from each individual lap sold goes directly to the prize fund). Laps 25 & 75 will sell for $5 each ($4.50 directly to the prize fund) while lap 50 and 100 will sell for $10.00 each ($9.40 directly into the prize fund) for a maximum of $123.80 if all laps are sold individually.  Additionally, anyone purchasing laps can designate that those dollars be credited to a specific driver (by putting that driver’s name in the memo line on the PayPal purchase). The driver with the highest amount of donations will receive one of the Promoter’s Option provisionals. Drivers are strongly encouraged to get their sponsors, family and friends involved in the event through the crowdfunding effort.  

“We had a successful showing last year with seven classes of cars racing but the majority of the suggestions we received was to focus on fewer cars and make a show out of that, so we cut back from seven to three” stated December Dirt Week Promoter Jim Foose.  “What I wanted to see was a true endurance race on dirt and 100 laps is a good distance to do that, it’s about as far as you can go with these cars on fuel and the track will change so much as the drivers race. There is sure to be some action and I’m sure we will see quite a few crunched fenders during this event and that’s something that in a 30 or 40 lap event you may not see have an effect, but in a 100 lap race you will see that come into play”.  

How the #DecemberDirtWeek Super Late Model field of 28 is set:

Qualifying on December 11th will set the line-ups for the 30 lap Twin Qualifiers, the field will be staggered with odd position qualifiers in one race and even position qualifiers in the other.

• Top 8 finishers from each qualifier will transfer to the 100 lap feature event.  (16)
• Fastest Qualifier not transferring from each Qualifying Race (2)
• The Top 6 finishers from the Last Chance Qualifier (6)
• Up to Four Promoter’s Option Provisionals (4)
