2017-08-08 22-31-16_0

There were five yellows with four lead changes in tonight’s action. The race went green for the first five-teen laps before seeing the first yellow. The race would go green to lap thirty providing some great pit strategy to start to pay itself out. On the one to go lap roughly ten drivers would come down pit road to top off with fuel. The race went green to lap 41 as drivers who stayed out were starting to pit which was playing into the hands of the guys who pitted on one to go during the prior yellow. The race went back green with just 4 laps to go and off the final restart is when the big one happened which sent the race to a yellow finish.

2017-08-08 22-21-59_0

There were 38 drivers who showed up for a shot at one of the 36 starting spots. It would see Nick Kohan make his 2017 debut and grab the pole with Michael Atkins Jr. 2nd, Devin Serra 3rd, Jake Douglas 4th, and Sam Maxwell rounded out the top 5 drivers. The race went green for most of the race which made for a fast paced event. The top 4 drivers of Kohan, Douglas, Atkins, and Serra drove away from the field by over 4 seconds while Maxwell, Mogard, and Chad Finley battled for 5th-7th grabbing the rest of the field by 5 second.

2017-07-25 21-58-42_0

The green flag run provided a very spread out event for everyone. It also provided for green flag pit stops which came about half way through as drivers made their stops. After it cycled through it seen no change in the top 5. Chad Finley who was running 6th had problems and it ended up ending his night after contending for a top 5 finish. Also notable point leader going into the event Brad Cross also had a pit road penalty which cost him a shot at a solid finish as well.

2017-07-25 21-53-37_0

The race appeared to be going caution free until with 4 to go when Dominic Lee had issues in which brought the yellow out. The race ended under yellow and it was Kohan making the most of his ASRS debut grabbing his 10th career ASRS Victory. Rounding out the top 5 was Jake Douglas 2nd, Michael Atkins, Jr. 3rd who needed a good run as he was in the final playoff spot coming into the nights action, Devin Serra 4th, and Sam Maxwell finished 5th.

2017-07-25 21-59-05_0

The series point standings with just 4 races remaining before the 2017 Playoffs start look like this. ASRS Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series Slings Mud for First Time, Cross Wins

2017-07-18 21-52-45_0

By Tom Giannini

(ROSSBURG, OH)  When the schedule for the 2017 Sam Maxwell Truck Series was released last year, a lot of drivers circled July 11th. Some circled the date because they knew their dirt experience would pay off. Others circled it because they knew it would be an uphill struggle for them to compete on dirt for the first time. Eldora played host to the Fastlane Racing Dirt Derby at Eldora and it did not disappoint.

2017-07-18 21-58-23_0

Bradley Cross was the favorite entering the event as the driver of the #30 has excelled in other ASRS sanctioned dirt events. Things got off to a fast start for him when he rocketed his truck to the pole. Danny Rodgers started on the outside pole followed by Devin Serra, Kris Titus and Richard Stallings.

2017-07-18 21-54-29_1

Drivers and fans alike did not know what to expect coming into the 75 lap event. Was there going to be a lot of wrecks? How tight would the racing be? Would tempers be flaring or would everyone give a lot of room to their fellow competitors? The answers did not disappoint. The racing was very good, at times the drivers would enter a turn 4-wide and exit the turn cleanly. There were a few wrecks on the night and several trucks that made a lot of contact but for the most part the night was pretty clean by Eldora standards.

2017-07-18 21-57-10_0

The incident counter would reveal only one driver that finished the night without having made contact and that driver was Brad Cross. He did not have to make contact as he was in clean air all night. Cross dominated the event leading all 75 laps en route to victory. Devin Serra had a strong run and ended up in 2nd. Richard Stallings, Kris Titus and Danny Rodgers all rounded out the top 5.

2017-07-18 22-05-52_0

Points leader Sam Maxwell was involved in a wreck and was relegated to a 25th place finish. The new points leader is now race winner Brad Cross. Devin Serra now trails him by 11 points followed by Allan Young (-20), Sam Maxwell (-23) and Jim Foose (-24). The battle for the bubble is heating up. With only five races before the start of the Chase, drivers looking to break into the top 8 are running out of time.

Pete Baskins Gets Lucky in Kentucky for First ASRS Win

2017-06-27 22-18-02_0

(SPARTA, KY) The ASRS Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series hit the rough and bumpy asphalt of Kentucky Speedway for the twelfth race of the 2017 season .  39 drivers attempted to qualify for the 36 truck starting field; Scott Haller, Zack Calloway and Josh Walker failed to qualify for the race.  Michael Atkins, Jr. led the speed chart in qualifying, winning the pole for the 113 mile main event.

2017-06-27 22-34-22_0

Atkins jumped to the lead but a series of early cautions slowed the pace dramatically and a mix of pit strategies stacked the field with fast trucks running throughout.  The early dominator was Tom Giannini who played pit strategy and took the lead for 19 laps.

2017-06-27 22-29-18_0

As the race neared the half-way point, green flag pit stops began for the leaders as the race took a green flag look midway.  The green flag pit stops allowed many drivers to take turns leading the way, with nine drivers swapping the lead 11 times.

2017-06-27 22-32-06_0

Late in the going, a caution flew that brought many front runners to pit road, but when the caution flew for the Dominic Lee turning then leader Jamie Moore in turns 3 and 4, it was Pete Baskins leading in the #3.  Baskins had to fend off hard chargers on fresher tires and with faster trucks to maintain his track position in the laps leading up to the caution.  At the checkered flag it was Pete Baskins scoring his first ASRS victory, Sam Maxwell finishing second, Atkins and Giannini third and fourth with Devin Serra rounding out the top five.

2017-06-27 22-35-07_0

Fresh off his second place finish, Sam Maxwell took the championship lead after former leader Brad Cross and second place driver Jim Foose suffered early damage and were unable to compete for the win.  Next up for the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series, the series heads to Eldora Speedway for the first race on dirt in series history.

Mogard Takes Iowa Victory

2017-06-20 22-16-14_0

Twitchy Race Reports

The Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series headed to the Iowa Speedway for the 11th race on the 2017 Season as drivers continue to set their sights on making the 2017 Playoffs for the Championship.

2017-06-20 22-32-28_0

It would see 38 drivers make the trip to try and qualify for the 36 Truck 100 lap event tonight. After qualifying was done it was Travis McQuistion sitting on the pole with Devin Serra 2nd, Jared Mogard 3rd, Dominic Lee 4th and Alex Giese rounding out the top 5. The event saw 6 yellow flag periods for 29 laps and saw 4 different race leaders.

2017-06-20 22-25-25_0

The race saw Travis McQuistion take his #93 to the race lead for the early parts of the event. But once the leaders made their first pit stops around lap 23 it would shake up the leaders. McQuistion and Mogard who had pressured the #93 for the first 20 some laps would restart 7th and 8th respectively after some drivers chose to stay out or take only two tires on pit stops. Mogard would be successful in getting back to the front as Travis McQuistion would find trouble that sent his truck into the inside wall off turn 2 ending his event early. Lee Staples would take over the lead from them pit stops and would hang on to it for a few laps before Jake Douglas would take his #49 to the top spot off a restart. Douglas would stay out front for the next 62 laps of the event.

2017-06-20 22-18-29_0

The race would see a green flag run to the end that would provide for an excellent finish to decide the winner between Jake Douglas and Jared Mogard. They have had their fair share of run-ins in prior events so it was shaping up to be a good finish for sure. That would be the case as Mogard would pressure Douglas causing Douglas to get into the wall coming off of turn 4. Mogard would briefly take the lead until they to go turn 1 where Douglas would get back by to the lead after Mogard would over drive turn 1. The end result would be with roughly 15 laps to go Mogard would have to re-rundown Douglas and try and get by Douglas again. Mogard would do both of them as once he caught Douglas coming to 6 laps to go Douglas again would get into the wall off turn 4 giving Mogard the opening he would be looking for. Mogard would lead only 6 laps and cruise on to his 18th Career ASRS victory and his 2nd on the 2017 Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series season.

2017-06-20 22-19-45_0

We caught up with Mogard who had this to say “It feels great to get the win. Had a great race with Douglas there and were able to come out on top. Just got to thank all my sponsors Captain Morgan, Mountain Dew, Twitchy Race Reports, and lastly my team Maxxed Out Motorsports. We’ve been rolling the last 3 weeks with now the 2nd win and Brad Cross becoming the new point leader. Just got to keep it rolling to the end of the season.”

2017-06-20 22-23-27_0

The point’s battle with just 7 races remaining before the Playoffs start got a bit tighter again. Brad Cross is the NEW point leader as Jim Foose had some troubles this week. Foose would fall to 2nd in the standings, Jason Stewart gained a spot to 3rd, Allan Young also gained a spot to 4th, while Sam Maxwell who also had trouble this week fell to 5th, Devin Serra gained a spot to go to 6th, Robby Baskins also gained a spot to 7th, and in the 8th and final playoff spot is Mitchell Brown who gained 1 spot.

2017-06-20 22-31-51_0

Notable who fell out of the top 8 was Jonathan Holstein who didn’t make the race due to connection issues which now has him on the outside looking in. Twitchy Race Reports

(MADISON, IL) After a week off the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series was ready to get back in action from the Gateway Motorsports Park for an 80 lap event which seen 39 drivers show up for the 36 Truck starting field. Following Qualifying it would see Jake Douglas sit on the pole with Ty Hester 2nd, Sam Maxwell 3rd, Michael Atkins Jr. 4th, and Jonathan Holstein 5th. There would only be 2 yellow flag periods for 8 laps with 7 different leaders throughout the event.

2017-06-13 22-27-37_0

The first yellow flew on the opening lap when a truck got into the wall and after it appeared they got going there would be another wreck halfway down the back stretch. The race would go back green and would stay green all the way to lap 63 before the yellow flew again.

2017-06-13 22-28-35_0During the long green run it would see Jake Douglas lose control of his truck while leading spinning into the infield causing him to go multiple laps down. That would give Michael Atkins the lead for 18 laps before Mogard would cruise from his 11th starting spot to take the lead for the next 30 laps before the yellow came out.

2017-06-13 22-30-06_0

The final 15 laps went green with no yellow and at the end it would see Travis McQuistion pick up his first career ASRS Win followed by Devin Serra 2nd, Mitchell Brown 3rd, Allan Young 4th, and Sam Maxwell 5th.

TWITCHY RACE REPORTS

(ROCKINGHAM, NC) Race #9 for the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series as part of the ASRS leagues headed to the Rockingham Speedway for 100 laps of racing action. The night’s actions would see a return of the #01 after a two week suspension that was handed down after the Super Late Model event at the Lucas Oil Speedway.

The night saw thirty-one drivers make the trip to compete and get a step closer to a playoff spot in the standings. The race see eight caution flag periods for thirty-one laps with only two leaders and one lead change. Qualifying seen a bit of an “upset” happen as Kris Titus would put his #25 Maxxed Out Motorsports ride on the pole of the event with Jonathan Holstein 2nd, Alex Giese 3rd, Jared Mogard 4th, and Robby Baskins rounded out the top 5. As mentioned there was only two leaders Kris Titus lead the first five laps of the event before giving way to fellow teammate Jared Mogard who would go on to lead the remaining ninety-five laps.

2017-05-30 22-15-39_0

The race saw a nice green run in the middle stages of the event before having a caution filled period during the last forty laps of the race. Mogard would have to fend off Tom Giannini on the last handful of restarts and would do just that. When the checkers flew it would be Mogard making a statement in his return to action to grab his 17th career Win with the ASRS league and his first of the 2017 SMC Truck Series.

2017-05-30 22-18-22_0

We caught up with Mogard and he had this to say following the win “We had a good truck and got to the lead early and never looked back. We could have gone without the last 5 or so restarts but were able to fend off challenges from the #33 and #41 there to grab the Win. Just got to thank all my sponsors RHRswag.com, Twitchy Race Reports, Mountain Dew, Pepsi/Captain Morgan, and of course Maxxed Out Motorsports for the awesome equipment to compete in weekly.”

Mitch Brown Finally Scores First Win

2017-05-16 21-58-20_0

(CONCORD, NC)  Winning races int he ASRS Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series isn’t easy, just ask Mitch Brown.  Brown has been a part of the series for the better part of a year and many close finishes, but never closed the deal.  That is until Charlotte.

2017-05-16 22-02-55_0

Forty-five drivers attempted to qualify for the 36 truck starting field, among those who failed to qualify: Kris Titus, Brian Chrismon, Nick Coffman, Justin Brown, Michael Cunic and Jamie Moore.  Michael Atkins, Jr. sped to the pole in the qualifying session and was joined by Tom Giannini on the front row for the start of the 100 mile race.

2017-05-16 22-03-43_0

Five cautions slowed the pace of the race slightly, but green flag runs mid race set up green flag pit stops for some.  A few late race cautions bunched the field as Mitch Brown had emerged the leader, even after contact with Allan Young swapped some paint between the two trucks.  Brown had to hold off several charges in the late stages but was leading when the race’s final caution flew with two laps to go, completing the race under the control of the pace car.

2017-05-16 22-03-17_0When the dust settled and the checkered flag flew it was Mitch Brown picking up his first ASRS victory, Allan Young was second followed by Pete Baskins in third, Robby Baskins fourth and Sam Maxwell rounding out the top five.

2017-05-16 22-01-59_0

The championship battle continues to see defending series champion Jim Foose expanding his lead to 21 points over Jason Stewart.  Next week the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series heads to Dover.

Justin Vaughn Feels At Home in Kansas

2017-05-09 22-10-02_0

(KANSAS CITY, KS) Forty-Three drivers made the trip to Kansas Speedway for the L.A. Simsport 125 as Race #6 of the SMC Truck Series was in action. Following qualifying it seen Devin Serra grab the pole with Jacob Cochran 2nd, Michel Atkins Jr. 3rd, John Kennedy 4th, and Pete Baskins rounded out the top 5. There were 5 yellow flag periods all involving solo car spins for the most part for twenty laps. The race seen thirteen lead changes between eight different drivers.

2017-05-09 22-18-55_0

The race started a bit rough as the trend of the race started with roughly 7-10 lap runs before the first few yellow flags came out. As the race went on the field seen green flag racing with the last half of the race seeing one yellow flag. The last forty laps were split up into twenty or more lap green flag runs to the end. The last run to the checkers was a twenty-four lap green flag run which seen the leaders run all over the racing surface.

2017-05-09 22-12-41_0

Off what was the final restart Kennedy brought them to green and led for a few laps. The gunner who has been dominating the Sportsman Truck Series appeared to possibly grab his first SMC Truck Series win on the 2017 season. But after about five laps Ty Hester would take over the lead and drive away from the field. Ty’s fast pace would prove to be costly as Justin Vaughn would run Ty down as his tires went away with roughly seven laps to go. Vaughn would in turn drive away from the field and not look back as he grabbed his first win on the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series in 2017. This was also Justin’s 2nd career ASRS win. Rounding out the top 5 was Ty Hester who fended off four drivers who were pressuring for 2nd at the end, Sam Maxwell came from his 21st starting spot to finish 3rd, Jared Mogard who continues to have qualifying issues came from his 30th starting spot to finish 4th, and continuing the hard charger trend Tim Knott came from his 26th starting spot to finish 5th.

2017-05-09 22-16-25_0

The top 5 finishers proved that passing could be done at the Kansas Speedway. As for the Championship standings well they seen a shake up a bit again tonight. Remember the top eight in the standings after Race #18 head to the playoffs. Big headline regarding the standings was when Jason Stewart and his #1 ride did not show up tonight.

2017-05-09 22-13-57_0

At the conclusion of tonight’s events it now sees Jim Foose pad his point lead from 4 to 18 points over Jason Stewart who is 2nd not a spot in the standings, Jonathan Holstein also holds his position in 3rd, Brad Cross gained a spot and moves to 4th, Zac Bozanich also gains a spot and moves to 5th, Danny Rodgers loses 2 spots and falls to 6th, while Sam Maxwell gains a spot to put him 7th, and Jared Mogard moves up 2 spots to the 8th and final spot in the current playoff picture.

2017-05-09 22-21-32_0

Bozanich Takes Richmond Victory

2017-04-18 22-07-54_0

Twitchy Race Reports

(RICHMOND, VA) The Sam Maxwell Customs ASRS Truck Series returned to action for Race #5 on the 2017 season. Tonight the drivers headed to the short track of Richmond International Raceway for the Skeeber Flob’s Kettle Corn 100 a 100 lap shootout.

It would see forty-two drivers show up to attempt to qualify for the thirty-six truck starting field. After qualifying was done it was Danny Rodgers putting his #22 on the pole for the event. Michael Atkins Jr., Jamie Vaughn, Jake Douglas, and Jared Mogard rounded out the top 5 in qualifying. The quick race stats seen 8 caution flag periods for 41 laps with 10 lead changes between 7 different drivers. The race was a caution filled event that seen the race take on an average of eleven green flag laps before the yellow would fly throughout the race. Surprisingly enough though most of the yellow flag periods for single truck or at the most two truck spins.

2017-04-18 22-14-29_0

The second yellow that came out was for the biggest wreck of the night when the leaders got loose in front of the field off turn two which left the rest of the field dodging the wrecking cars. This involved several drivers as they just had no room to avoid the spinning trucks.

2017-04-18 22-11-53_0

The surprise of the night came when the yellow flew with roughly thirty laps to go for Danny Rodgers who appeared to have the race in his hands and was his to loose. He would get loose off turn two and hit the wall sending him spinning to the inside wall. He would escape with minimal damage however would be buried back in about the twenty-fifth position. Rodgers would struggle to rebound from this mistake with just few laps left.

2017-04-18 22-13-28_0

When the race was all said and done it was Zac Bozanich taking his #91 Toyota to ASRS Victory Lane at Richmond. This is Zac’s second win on the Sam Maxwell Truck Series season and his 9th career ASRS Victory.  Arguably the most impressive part about this Win for Zac is that he came from his 21st starting position to get the win at the end of this relatively short race when you figure in the yellow flag periods. We caught up with Zac and he had this to say about his performance tonight “Man did it feel good to get that monkey off my back after winning Daytona and then having the next 3 finishes outside the top 20. Qualifying didn’t really show our speed that we had in the 91 Speed Vegas Toyota, but that thing was a rocket in race trim. Starting 21st limited the strategy for the night and really forced me to take my time and just miss all the carnage that was going to happen and luckily I was able to do that and found myself inside the top 5 by about lap 30. From there it was just settle in and survive tell the end and make a late race charge. I caught a couple good breaks with leaders wrecking and picking up spots that way and then on the final restart the leader started spinning off of 4 and luckily made it by with minimal contact which ended the race under yellow. I can’t thank my whole MaXXed Out Motorsports team enough for the great trucks week in and week out, Brad, Jared, Nick, John, Kris really provide good feedback and trucks so we as a team can perform and win races.”

2017-04-18 22-11-06_0

The top 5 finishers were as followed; Zac Bozanich your Winner, Devin Serra 2nd, Sam Maxwell 3rd, Jim Foose 4th, and Allan Young rounding out the top 5. The championship standings which see the top eight in the standings go to the playoffs after race #18 took a bit of a shake up with the wrecks that took place. The current eight drivers in the playoffs after Race #5 are Jim Foose who retains the point lead, Jason Stewart 2nd, Jonathan Holstein 3rd, Danny Rodgers 4th, Brad Cross 5th, Zac Bozanich jumps up three spots to move into 6th, Dan Mathews who jumped up four spots to move into a playoff position for the first time in 2017 7th, and Sam Maxwell who jumped up four spots as well to take the final playoff spot in 8th.

The next Sam Maxwell Truck Series event is not until May 9th when the drivers will head to the Kansas Speedway for the L.A. Simsport 125 an 85 lap event for everyone there. As for next Tuesday night April 25th the ASRS Xfinity Series is in action from the Richmond International Raceway for the Richmond 125.
