As the race went on the field seen green flag racing with the last half of the race seeing one yellow flag. The last forty laps were split up into twenty or more lap green flag runs to the end. Off what was the final restart Kennedy brought them to green and led for a few laps. The gunner who has been dominating the Sportsman Truck Series appeared to possibly grab his first SMC Truck Series win on the 2017 season. But after about five laps Ty Hester would take over the lead and drive away from the field. Ty’s fast pace would prove to be costly as Justin Vaughn would run Ty down as his tires went away with roughly seven laps to go. Vaughn would in turn drive away from the field and not look back as he grabbed his first win on the Sam Maxwell Customs Truck Series in 2017. This was also Justin’s 2nd career ASRS win. Rounding out the top 5 was Ty Hester who fended off four drivers who were pressuring for 2nd at the end, Sam Maxwell came from his 21st starting spot to finish 3rd, Jared Mogard who continues to have qualifying issues came from his 30th starting spot to finish 4th, and continuing the hard charger trend Tim Knott came from his 26th starting spot to finish 5th.
