A look at the 10 Chase Drivers

SEED #1: #46 Robby Baskins

The Freeland, MI resident made a splash in the first three races and found victory lane as recently as July at Lucas Oil Raceway.  While Baskins has been up front, the #46 has been lacking a little of the early season speed.  Nonetheless Baskins is the favorite to win the championship, in his first Chase appearance.

SEED #2: #42 Jim Foose

No driver has as much experience at the Chase format as Jim Foose, who has appeared in all ten Chase for the Championships (the chase format was not used in 2011 or 2012).  With 268 starts in the Camping World Truck Series, Foose has the experience to back up being a serious contender and he has wins in the truck at 5 of the eight tracks that make up the Chase.  Look for the #42 to be in contention come Homestead.

SEED #3: #45 Zack Calloway

Calloway doesn’t get much press, and he isn’t flashy but the driver of the #45 is consistent and over an eight race championship with close competition consistency could win the championship.  To be a true contender Calloway needs to find victory lane over the next eight races.

SEED #4: #5 Scott Haller

Haller has flown under the radar, and for good reason: the driver oft he #5 is a true rookie in 2016.  Haller had very little iRacing experience prior to 2016 and it has shown, but Haller has powered through and now has a chance to contend for the championship.  To do so, the driver of the #5 needs to eliminate mistakes and find a bit of speed.

SEED #5: #13 Jason Lindner

This is a driver who has been bounced around this year, starting out the year on a team that folded just a month into the season and then joining another team that fell apart a short time later.  Jason landed at JF2 Racing and has run consistently good since making the move, although the first win has been elusive.  We expect to see the #13 contend for the championship.

SEED #6: #12 Shawn Musick

Shawn Musick’s season has been much like the picture above, while the #12 has led laps and shown some speed, but crashes and DNF’s have prevented the #12 from being there at the finish.  Musick has struggled this year, running a single truck operation with nobody to lean on for help can be very challenging to overcome.

SEED #7:  #7 Justin Vaughn

The speed has been there for the West Virginia native, but the consistency and finishes have not.  Justin Vaughn did win his first ASRS race in the Xfinity Series earlier this year, but he has not found that in the trucks.  He was forced to miss a few races over the summer due to other commitments and the terrible flooding in West Virginia in early July.

SEED #8: #17 Barry Zellmer:

Nobody will forget how Zellmer got into the Chase.  It wasn’t exactly a clean pass, but both drivers agreed that it was hard racing and Zellmer came out ahead of Jason Stewart.  Sure, road courses bring out the best (and sometimes worst) in stock car racing, and nobody can hold it against Zellmer for moving his competition.  Afterall Zellmer qualified for his first Chase.  That’s racing!

SEED #9: #10 Jared Mogard

Mogard has two wins to his credit this year, but he missed the first five races of the season and was hit with a points penalty for not meeting the attendance requirement.  He is fast, but to overcome a 60 point deficit if going to be hard.

SEED #10: #19 Jamie Vaughn

Jamie Vaughn, like Mogard, was hit with a points penalty and it will be virtually impossible for the driver oft he #19 to overcome.  He found victory lane once this year at Milwaukee and has shown speed but consistency has left the #19 tumbling in the standings.  Jamie also faced the flooding in July and was out of action for nearly a month.
